Some goals for January 2025
Alright. First ever devlog post!
I would like to start this devlog by saying that this project will take absolutely forever, and I felt compelled to finally publish it because why tf not?
I started working on this game in October, after conceptualizing it not long after the original (even though no eyes were on it whatsoever, and I was mostly making for fun.) which hit it's first anniversary not long ago.
Here are some goals I envision and hope to achieve for Akiro 2 by the end of January:
- 2 player. This is NOT optional. The standout feature of Akiro 2 was envisioned to be local multiplayer co-op, and that is what separates the game from the original, and is heavily engrained in the story, so unless I wanna rewrite the story, that aint gonna fly.
- Character selection. Also NOT optional. It ties into the first feature.
- Caravan/shop. NOT optional. A major part of the story is the sections between areas.
- Seamless level transitions. Most likely not optional. The original game was semi-seamless, using doors as the transitions, but since this game takes place in a variety of biomes and whatnot, seamless transitions might be necessary, but we'll see how it goes.
- Speaking of levels! More levels. NOT optional. The game can't possibly take place in a single fkn level. There are 8 areas planned, each with 8 levels plus a 9th boss level. Putting that all into a single level is CPU homicide. So I need to actually work making a level system.
- More enemies. Could probably get away with delaying this, but best not to. But since the engine is still being refined, it's best to just do it semi-now.
Those are all the goals that are imperative to making the core game work. This game, as it is planned, CANNOT go further without these goals being met. And preferably as soon as possible while the engine is still in it's infancy.
As for fun features that are not necessary?
- Steam and Discord integration. Not needed whatsoever, but honesty might be worth it.
- Easter eggs. Okay, this will definitely be in. but im not telling where :) This doesn't mean secrets, as those are a common gameplay mechanic.
- Filters. Not needed at all. But might be worthwhile for the dorks that like them (like me and my affinity for ntsc simulations)
That is all for now.
